Event Report
Armageddon 2009 was an exciting event for all as Hub brought the Twilight Tour to Melbourne as well as some exciting Stargate:Atlantis guests. Jason Momoa, Paul McGillion, Christopher Heyerdahl, Bronson Pelletier and Cameron Bright and costumer John Henson joined the Armageddon line up and entertained everyone with their talks and as well as signing autographs and posing for pictures.
Christopher won many a heart with his delightfully sweet personality (so different from the characters he plays!) and his rendition of Johhhhhn Sheperrrrrrrd. Bronson and Cameron were bundles of energy, wandering around the hall and mingling with the fans. Bronson especially could not be kept still and insisted on answering each person's question during his talk, face to face!
The Stargate panels were a delight with all the boys joking with each other and crashing each other's panels, Jason arguing with the wrestlers and Paul setting more than one person into fits of giggles with his near flawless Joe Flannigan impersonation. Autographs were signed and fans got their pictures taken with their favourite actors (Christopher gave the best hugs!) John's costume collection went down a treat and everyone had a great time.
Whilst we had to farewell Christopher, Cameron and John in Melbourne, the other boys joined us to do it all over again in Auckland, New Zealand, where they once again enjoyed a weekend of mingling and chatting with fans, doing panels, posing for pictures and signing autographs. Jason's voice could often be heard bellowing out lines from his new HBO pilot "Game of Thrones" and hijinks came into play again as the Stargate boys took turns defacing each other's posters, much to the delight of the fans looking on. All in all it was an exhausting but fun couple of weeks for all!
Below is one attendees' account of the special dinner with the guests in Melbourne.
Beck Mitchell's story:
My friend Rhi and I entered the hotel nervous, and excited for what was to be our first Twilight event! Upon arriving on the correct floor, we hurried inside the function room to ensure we had ‘prime position’. I had been joking with Rhi all week that I really wanted to sit on a table with Christopher Heyerdahl (Marcus) or Cameron Bright (Alec) but knowing my luck we would be stuck on the table with “some wolf puppy” being Bronson Pelletier (Jared of the wolfpack). We sat down only to discover we were sitting at the table for the Stargate dinner and were very kindly directed the correct table! We met some lovely ladies who felt as almost as silly as we did being there! We discussed how interested the stars would be in talking to the Cougars! Lol. We settled in for a drink, and right on time Chris, Cam and Bronson walked in! And yes, I jinxed us we were on Bronson’s table! However, in saying that he was really friendly and approachable! Bronson sauntered over and sat down, introducing himself. Entrée was served and the others on the table began chatting with Bronson. Rhi and I were a little unsure of how we should approach the actors, or what to do nest besides admire how lovely they looked! I turned around to see Cameron on the other table, chatting to everyone as well as his lovely Mum, Anne! On the next table I could hear the baritone of Chris’s voice as he chatted with everyone.
My attention was drawn back to Bronson as he asked us to go around the table and tell him our names. We each introduced ourselves (well twice because he went around the table again to try and remember everyone). I was quite impressed that he took the time to do that. The dinner continued as we all chatted with Bronson and was able to ask him some questions and hear about his experiences of filming New Moon. It felt quite surreal to be sitting this close to him and hearing first hand about his experiences!
Next a few people were posing for photographs, so I grabbed Rhi’s hand and walked over to Cameron. He was really friendly and approachable, and wow that killer smile. I introduced myself, and he was nice enough to pose for a photo with us. We went back to our table and continued chatting to the other people on our table. That was another great aspect of the Twilight dinner, the chance to meet fellow Twilight fans and make some great new friends!
We noticed Chris was also posing for some photos, so Rhi and I asked him if he would mind taking a photos with us to which he agreed. Once the photo was taken Chris stood there and smiled. After a few seconds of shocked silence we realized he was happy to talk to us! I stumbled over a few words rambling about being at the Twi-Con the week before in Sydney, and had he was lovely. He chatted to us for a few minutes about his time off over the last few days in Tasmania. I told Chris that between him and Cameron they had converted me to Team Volturi! Chris then got into a discussion with Rhi about why she is so anti-Jacob discussing her reasoning behind her decision of ‘team’. Chris was then whisked away to another table.
As Chris, Cam and Bronson said their goodbyes everyone thanked them for coming and being so friendly.
Overall, the night was an amazing experience. To be completely honest I didn’t have the highest expectations going into it, but I couldn’t have been more wrong! The dinner certainly exceeded what we had expected by far. It was such a relaxed setting, and was an amazing opportunity to be able to meet and speak to the actors in such detail. They were so approachable and friendly and more than happy to talk to each of us. Also, being able to meet fellow “Twi-hards” or fellow fans, added to the experience. Everyone was happy to be there with the chance to interact with some of the stars, as well as meet new people and maybe even make a few friends. I can honestly say Rhi and I had an amazing night, it certainly was a great experience and we are looking forward to attending our next Hub event!
