The Hub Productions presented the first Twilight event, coinciding with the release of the movie, Twilight the following week in Australia. To celebrate the movie release, Taylor "Jacob" Lautner, Nikki " Rosalie" Reed and Edi "Laurant" Gathegi came to Sydney and Melbourne for a convention. Awesome!
On Thursday the 5th of December in Sydney, the guests came to a special prescreening of Twilight and spoke to 250 *screaming* fans before the movie came on. There was so much excitement in the crowd, that much of movie could hardly be heard over the exuberant cries! It was a fun, over-the-top, extremely enjoyable experience. Friday night held the ever popular Cocktail Party at the Embassy, where fans got to wine, dine and chat with the guests. They were such a lovely bunch!
Saturday was a full day of convention with merchandise, auctions, a raffle and more! After a full professional photograph session, where the actors hugged just about everyone who turned up. Awww! What great guys! Edi Gathegi gave the first talk of the day, entertaining the attendees with an exaggerated demonstrations of the 'magic carpet' (his favourite part of the film) and his awesome costume, as well as showing off his animated voices, including the serious Indian rapper Poom Poom, who can't count.
Nikki Reed gave a heart filled talk of her appreciation for the fans at the convention who said so many positive things about her. When she was first cast for the role of Rosalie, there was quite a negative backlash because she wasn't a natural blonde and had worn a blonde wig in the test shots taken for the film! She ended up dying her hair blonde, even though it was falling out from all the bleach, so she could better match the role. Isn't she a gem!
Taylor Lautner, the most anticipated guest of the day, lived up to expectations. He was super entertaining! We learned from his Q&A; that he hated his test shot for the movie and was beefing up to be a werewolf in New Moon. He also did a back flip and tried some vegemite - brave guy!
Melbourne's convention day and screening was just as fun and entertaining as Sydney's (completely sold out as well!). The talks on Sunday included Edi telling the crowd about his first meeting with Stephanie Meyer, in which he made a fool of himself because he was so nervous! Nikki talked about having her tongue pierced and 11 as well as bleaching her skin when cast for the role of Rosalie! Taylor took the stage lucky last, and again the crown cheered him into doing another backflip! They were not disappointed!
On the Sunday in Melbourne, around 30 members of the Twilight Australia forum had the chance to meet and mingle. Finally getting to put faces to (user) name’s!
With another successful cocktail party on Sunday evening (more drinking and smoozing) and another pre-screening on Monday night (more excitement and screaming!), this Twilight weekend was a brilliant time for all, and assured more Twilight actors will come in Australia in the future. Yay for us!!
